Team Soil At Santa Barbara High School Today!

Team Soil shredders (Chris Potts, Dylan Stark, and Dan Norvel) will be riding at the high school this afternoon. These guys are amazing – they are part of the same team that has been doing shows on State St. the last couple of years. Word from the SBHS students is that they will be running the shows from 3PM until about 4:30PM. Hope you can make it!

No, this is not bicycle related; however, during my formative years, as a grommet riding around and learning about life, the Beastie Boys were often part of my soundtrack. These days, you can still find them on the radio in the shop quite often. In many respects, the Beastie Boys embodied the original ideals of hip hop, and our condolences go out to Adam Yauch’s friends, family, and everyone that will miss him.

Two weeks ago Sunday, during CicLAvia this past April 15th, Mayor Villaraigosa announced the City of Los Angeles’ plans to partner with Bike Nation – a private start-up investing $16 million in a 4,000 bike/400 station bike-sharing program. The time is right to purchase a PERMANENT HOME for the Bicycle Kitchen / BiciCocina. We have found the perfect space, a former bakery at the intersection of Fountain and Virgil. It will give us room to grow and ensure our longevity as an organization.

With a permanent space we will have greater flexibility to fulfill our mission in our own unique ways and with greater stability. We’ve been working hard on raising funds through events and we have received a $100K grant towards the down payment from Metabolic Studio, a direct charitable activity of the Annenberg Foundation.

We’re down to the wire and we need a final push to get where we want to be. Our goal is to raise $30,000. Donate now! Any amount helps. Your donation will help keep us wrenching into the future!”

Yesterday Was The Dam Backcountry Ride

The backcountry is magical. It is wild and beautiful, yet monuments of man crop up all around you. Here are some shots and a quick video from yesterday’s ride into the backcountry that included everything from hot springs to a boat ride. Special thanks to my guide and riding partner, Louis Andaloro.
